It wont look nice if it is plain in front. maybe either silkscreen a small logo.. or embosses a nice logo in front. Personally i would suggest to have a collared shirt rather than a plain normal t-shirt.
A tripod won't help. Either you need a faster lens (digital SLRs or a really, really good point-and-shoot) or more light ... think FLOODLIGHTS! -dave
